Can these two vaccines be vaccinated at the same time? Authoritative response is coming

Since March 2021, influenza activity in China's southern and northern provinces has been higher than the same period in 2020, and the influenza activity level in southern provinces has shown a significant upward trend since September. The epidemic of new crown pneumonia and influenza and other respiratory infectious diseases have overlapped in this winter and next spring. Risks still exist, and the complexity and difficulty of prevention and control work has increased.

To this end, the State Council’s Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism for the New Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic has recently issued the "Notice on Doing a Good Job in Influenza Prevention and Control in the 2021-2022 Epidemic Season", requiring all localities to do a good job in the prevention and control of influenza in the 2021-2022 epidemic season. Why should I get the flu vaccine? Who are the key groups for influenza vaccination? Can the flu vaccine and the new coronavirus vaccine be vaccinated at the same time? This reporter interviewed relevant experts.

Why should I get the flu vaccine?

Experts say that annual influenza vaccination is the most effective way to prevent influenza, which can significantly reduce the risk of influenza and serious complications for vaccinators.

Influenza viruses are prone to mutate. In order to match the constantly mutating influenza viruses, the influenza vaccine components recommended by the World Health Organization in most seasons will update one or more strains, and there are also situations where the vaccine strains are exactly the same as the previous epidemic season. In order to ensure the maximum protection of the vaccinated population, even if the influenza vaccine composition is exactly the same as the previous epidemic season, considering that the immunity of most vaccinators will gradually weaken over time, influenza vaccine still needs to be vaccinated every year.

Who are the key groups for influenza vaccination?

The notice requires the orderly advancement of influenza vaccination work, and proposes that all regions should follow the "China Influenza Vaccination Technical Guidelines (2021-2022)" issued by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and provide medical personnel, large-scale event participants and security personnel in order of priority. Vulnerable people and employees in senior care institutions, long-term care institutions, welfare homes and other crowded places, people in key places such as kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and elderly people aged 60 and above, children aged 6 months to 5 years, patients with chronic diseases, etc. Carry out vaccination with high-risk groups. Encourage places where conditions permit to implement free vaccination for the above population, increase the influenza vaccination rate, and reduce the occurrence of influenza clusters.

Can the flu vaccine and the new coronavirus vaccine be vaccinated at the same time?

According to experts, the current research on the immunogenicity and safety effects of simultaneous inoculation of influenza vaccine and new coronavirus vaccine is still in progress. According to China's "New Coronavirus Vaccination Technical Guidelines (First Edition)",influenza vaccine and new coronavirus vaccine are recommended in principle. The vaccination interval should be greater than 14 days.

The specific situation is divided into: the new crown virus vaccine can be vaccinated 14 days after the influenza vaccine; or the influenza vaccine can be vaccinated 14 days after the completion of the new crown virus vaccine vaccination program; or the influenza vaccine can be vaccinated between two doses of the new crown virus vaccine, that is, in the first vaccination. One dose of the new coronavirus vaccine will be given 14 days later and the second dose of new coronavirus vaccine will be given 14 days later.

Experts remind that it is necessary to pay attention to the choice of flu vaccine between two doses of new coronavirus vaccine, and the requirements for the number of doses and intervals of new coronavirus vaccine must be followed.

In addition to vaccination, what other protective measures can prevent influenza?

Experts say that maintaining good personal hygiene is also an important means to prevent influenza and other respiratory infectious diseases, including: wearing a mask; washing hands frequently; avoiding crowd gathering places during the flu season; coughing or sneezing after flu symptoms Cover your mouth and nose with tissues, towels, etc. and then wash your hands; try to avoid contact with your eyes, nose or mouth.

In addition, when family members have flu patients, try to avoid close contact, especially when there are elderly and chronic patients in the home. When parents of children with flu symptoms go to the hospital for treatment, they should also protect the children and themselves (such as wearing a mask) to avoid cross-infection. When influenza-like cases occur in schools, nurseries and other collective units, the patients should stay at home to reduce the spread of the disease.
